Birth Mark Removal

Birthmarks are spots or blemishes on the skin that are visible at birth or shortly afterwards. Birthmarks are mostly divided into two broad categories including Pigmented birthmarks and Vascular birthmarks. Pigmented birthmarks are caused by excess skin pigment cells include moles, café-au-lait spots, and Mongolian spots; while Vascular birthmarks or red birthmarks are caused by increased blood vessels and include macular stains (salmon patches), hemangiomas, and Port-wine stains.

The Q-Switched Laser has been developed to remove various colors of tattoo pigment and certain brown pigment growths & birthmarks from the skin. Initially a test dose may be done to determine the necessary energy settings of the laser. Once this dose is determined, the entire tattoo or pigmentation will be treated at the next visit. A laser light is passed over the pigmented skin, microscopically shattering the pigment into tiny particles which are more easily processed and eliminated by the body.
