Pigmentation

Skin pigmentation also called hyper-pigmentation is a condition, which is characterized by excessive production of melanin, a substance that determines the skin tone in human beings. Melanin is a complex polymer derived from the amino acid tyrosine found in melanocyte cells, which are specialized cells distributed throughout the top layer of our skin (called epidermis). After its production, melanin spreads to other skin cells nearby and gives uniform appearance of color in the skin. However, sometimes these melanocyte cells group together or forms clusters in groups and form moles, freckles and other skin discolorations.
